    Interlibrary Loan Requests

    Interlibrary loan (ILL) is the process by which a library requests material from, or supplies material to, another library.

    Patrons with a current Warren Public Library card in good standing can place a request. Requests cannot be placed using a temporary card. The requesting patron must use their own library card.

    Please note, that while Interlibrary Loan does not typically cost the patron any money, there are costs which incur on the library's end (supplies, staffing, postage, etc.). Therefore, please limit your ILL requests to three at a time.

    Warren Public Library card holders can request ILLs, provided the patron is willing to pick up the requested item at the Warren Public Library. Library patrons wishing to pick up their material at another public library should place their request with that library.

    The Warren Public Library makes every effort to utilize the resources within the library itself. In compliance with the Pennsylvania Interlibrary Loan Guidelines, items currently available for use within the Warren Public Library cannot be requested through ILL. This includes materials checked out, items on hold, and some reference materials. Please check the Warren Public Library’s catalog before submitting an interlibrary loan request.

    The following items may not be requested through interlibrary loan:

    • Titles owned by the Warren Public Library, unless long overdue or declared missing;
    • Current bestsellers and materials published in the previous 6 months;
    • Titles in recurring demand;
    • Entire magazines or journal issues (requests for photocopies of articles are permitted);
    • More than five (5) articles from five (5) issues of the same periodical or journal title, unless a subscription to the title has been placed or copyright royalties have been paid;
    • Electronic books and licensed software;
    • Reference materials which are not marked to circulate.

    In addition, borrowers should be aware that some types of materials can be difficult to obtain and that borrowing these items may involve prolonged delivery times, and/or advance payment of lending fees.

    These categories include, but are not limited to:

    • Reference works;
    • Dissertations, theses, etc.;
    • Locally-specific materials (e.g., local history materials);
    • Genealogical materials;
    • Rare and archival materials.

    If you have already submitted an ILL Request, please do not put in another request for the same title. Please call the ILL Department and check on the status of your item. Thank you!
