    March Game Night

March 11 is the next Game Night and the library is going to be trying a few new things.  What you ask?  Come and find out.  Some of the donations from last game night has been used to purchase some food and drink... if the donations continue, the better the "banquet".

2010 Teen & Tween Game Nights

Thanks to your support, Game Night continues into the new year!  Though we have had to cut back on some of the food and drinks, we still are providing a great environment for you to come and enjoy games and conversation with your friends!  Unfortunately, due to budget cuts and similar financial problems, we have had to rely on the contributions and donations of participants of the game night.  This doesn't mean we won't the games will stop.  But some of the special stuff we do, like pizza, will be done on a "as we can afford to" basis.  Your support and donations will helps keep these features and expand them in the future.

Thank you for all of your support and participation!

    Game Night Meetings

October 25, 2007 was the first Game Night held at the Warren Public Library.  Originally held in the Young Adult Room with only 1 week and 5 laptops, the event attracted a total of 6 students.  As of May 14, the Game Night is now held in the large, 3rd floor Slater Meeting Room with 2 Nintendo Wiis, 1 Nintendo GameCube, 2 Nintendo GameBoys, 10 Laptops borrowed from the Beckley Mobile Lab, and pizza and refreshments.

It has been almost 2 years now and the participation has risen from anywhere to 20 to 60 students a night!  Recently, the age average has also jumped up with the steady increase in high school students in attendance.  But to keep the Game Night running, we need support of the community.

In the past, there have been several attempts to make a "Teen Meeting" during the Game Night while everyone enjoyed the Pizza.  There have been several topics, but the main ones that are continually discussed are:

    • Events other than the Game Nights
    • Teen Activities Budget and low funds
    • Advertising to Encourage Participation at Events
    • Teen Advisory Council for Library & Game Night

Those that would like to have a meeting at the next Game Night, please attend the October Game Night and talk to Dale Aikens.  If there are enough requests, a meeting will be held to determine the previously stated information.

    Game Night Continues:

Remember, its not just computers.  Along with all of our different game systems, including 2 Nintendo Wiis, a Nintendo Game Cube, and two Dance Pads (Similar to DDR), individuals have started bringing other activities.  You are welcome to bring any games and ideas to the event! Some of the ideas we have tried include:

    • Collectible Card Games like Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh! and World of War Craft.
    • Collectible Model Games like Dragon Dice, War Hammer, and Battletech.
    • Role-Playing Games like Shadowrun, Stargate, Serenety, and D20 Systems.
    • Board Games like Chess, Monopoly, Battleship, Hangman and Axis and Allies.
    • Computer Games like Runescape, Roblox, Age of Empires, and Project Torque.
    • Game Systems like Nintendo's Wii and GameCube, Microsoft's Xbox and Sony's Playstations.
    • New ideas are not only welcomed, but encouraged! Let us know what you want!
