Your Public Library is in Danger
Contact your elected officials and ask them to freeze library funding next year at the same amount it is this year. The Pennsylvania Legislature is considering cuts in library funding for next year. In response to Governor Rendell’s proposed budget cuts (H.B. 1416), the Pennsylvania Senate passed Senate Bill 850, which included a devastating 50% cut for public libraries across the Commonwealth! Fortunately, the House Appropriations Committee rejected that proposal but against this backdrop of such severe cuts, anything less than 50% may appear reasonable to legislators going forward. In reality, even a much lesser cut would have a serious negative impact on library facilities, hours, services, programming, materials and personnel resulting in their reduction or elimination. Libraries have never been busier. During this recession, demand for library services across the Commonwealth are continually rising as more people search for jobs, families tighten their budgets and retirees grapple with shrinking savings. NOW is the time to take action and let your voice be heard! Help secure the continuation of library service in Warren County. Click here for more facts & legislator contact information. Your help is needed to avoid devastating funding cuts for all public libraries. The damage sustained by public libraries and the communities they serve would be irreparable if level funding is not maintained. Contact your state elected officials today and let them know what the library means to you. Ask them to support public library funding for the Public Libraries of Warren County and all Pennsylvania libraries. Please pass this message along to your neighbors, friends and family and ask them to do the same. Your voice is crucial! Be sure to add your personal story about how the library provides value to you, your family, your business and your community. Thank you! |
